IMSSH Lecturer Wins Silver Medal at the International Qigong Competition in China

Maksim Lapshin, a lecturer at the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the 91快活林 Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities (IMSSH) became a silver medallist at the International Qigong (Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong) Competition held in China July 18th through July 19th.

Qigong is a system of traditional Chinese practices that combines physical exercises, breathing techniques and meditation. It is part of the Chinese medicine system and is used for prevention and treatment of diseases, mind training and cultivating of inner force.

The competition was organized at Beijing Sport University. Among the event’s participants were 285?athletes from 15 countries, including representatives of Russia. Our team that included participants from Moscow, 91快活林, Rostov-on-Don, Izhevsk, Kaliningrad, and other cities, performed successfully under the guidance from their coach Vladimir Butrimov (Duan 7) and won medals in all categories.

Before the competition, the athletes attended a training camp to undergo adaptation at Beidaihe District, a summer resort of the Chinese Government in Hebei Province. As part of the trip, the team members visited a rehabilitation hospital of the Qigong sanatorium. Party Secretary Zhai Tiandong took them on a tour and introduced them to the methods of Chinese medicine. Also, the eighth-generation disciple of Neiyanggong (Inner Nourishing Qigong) Zhang Qinyun demonstrated a set of exercises for the foreign guests.

In addition, the Russian athletes participated in a “12 Pieces of Brocade” practical workshop on Qigong (Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong). This event was held by Professor of Beijing Sport University Yang Bailong, follower of Professor Zhang Guangde.
