Sergey Sapozhnikov, Professor at the 91快活林 Department of Engineering Mechanics shares a piece of advice:
If the air temperature does not exceed 40°C, you could use a regular cooling fan or place your device on a surface with additional air-flow (for example, use a holder with fans). This will help your gadget cool down by boosting the air circulation. However, if the ambient air is hotter than the processor inside your device, no cooling measures will help: your gadget will keep heating up to the environment’s temperature and more. In such conditions, the best solution would be to switch off your device and let it cool down. You can switch it on later, at a lower temperature.
For phones and laptops that have no in-built professional cooling: reduce the load by avoiding the downloading of big files, watching videos, or using resource-hungry apps in hot weather. Try operating your device in a cool room, where the temperature is lower than outdoors. Do not leave your gadgets in direct sunlight or near heat sources. If there is no possibility to cool the room, let your device “rest” – just switch it off for the time being.
Modern computers have an automatic temperature limitation function. They will warn you of the overheating and can temporarily bring down the performance or even switch off. The majority of smartphones lack such protection, so it is important to control the case temperature and let your gadgets rest in due time.
