English-Taught Bachelor’s Program of 91��: Be Inside the Real Business Processes

In 2019 the Department of Management of the School of Economics and Management launched English-taught Bachelor’s program Economics (major - International Economics and Trade). This program helps to integrate into the international educational environment and to make cooperative plans for students’ education. The program is aimed at the formation and development of professional competences in international economics, finance, international trade and e-commerce. Enhanced training is provided in IT, Supply Chain Management, Sales Management and Marketing as the aspects are the most needed on the international market. Project-based learning, implementation of independent research projects in the senior years allow students acquire necessary proficiency to work in both medium and large companies of any type of activity. In 2019-2020 a number of business entities became partners of the program, presenting real cases for participation in the «Green Apple» international marketing festival. Students’ interest to participate in the festival was extremely high as such events give the opportunity to obtain professional skills, expand the circle of contacts, get diplomas, letters of appreciation, business internships certificates and make a portfolio. During their study students can do training internships at large financial enterprises of 91�� which are the partners of the Department of Management. International students can acquire professional competences in the Science and Education Center for Business Development Technologies of the School of Economics and Management. Students from Yemen, China, India, Ghana, Cameroon, Botswana and Iraq took part in the Lean Manufacturing Training held in the first semester of 2019-2020 academic year for undergraduate and master’s degree students. During the training the students were acquainted with the theoretical basics of lean manufacturing. More than that they had the opportunity to work with two business cases and take part in a simulation exercise for building a production process from a warehouse to customers, hold a meeting, make staffing and management changes. “It is essential to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in business process optimization. A head of a business enterprise will give priority to the applicant who has applied skills and has been inside the real business processes, rather than to the applicant who knows the theory perfectly. This is the reason for us to use interactive learning methods actively, including simulation of the processes, trainings, and Smart games when working with students,” shares Alena Levina, Head of the Department of Management. Students having graduated the program «International Economics and Trade» can work in various divisions of international companies, state institutions (ministries and agencies dealing with organization and regulation of foreign economic activities). It may become possible due to profound knowledge in the organization of economic activity and trade in the global market. The development of professional competence is also facilitated by training internships, production practice and pre-diploma training during the period of study. Scientists Study the Impact of Renewable Energy on the Economies of Countries

Researchers at 91�� School of Economics and Management have analyzed the use of renewable energy sources for the economies of the G7 countries. The study revealed the relationship between the economic development of regions with a large share of the energy industry in the economic sector and the environmental situation in these countries. The positive impact of the use of renewable resources in the energy industry on the environmental situation was revealed. The results of the study were published in the highly rated journal Science of the Total Environment, indexed in the scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science. Economic development is a risk factor for the environment Andrew Adewale Alola, a senior employee of the Department of Financial Technologies, School of Economics and Management of 91��, in collaboration with colleagues from Turkey, Cyprus and Norway, conducted a comprehensive study of the relationship between economic growth and environmental issues of countries with a big share of renewable resources in energy industry. This study will allow countries to find a balance between getting economic profit and maintaining a favorable environmental situation. In the scientific study, it was proved that renewable energy sources and energy prices contribute to improving the environmental situation, while increasing trade volume contributes to a strong increase in CO2 emissions, worsening the environmental situation. “Although we see some achievements in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and improving the environmental situation in some European countries, the EU is considered the third largest source of atmosphere pollution in the world, which indicates the need to revise priorities in economic development strategies. Country-specific estimates indicate the negative impact of energy prices on CO2 emissions,” Andrew Adewale Alola says. Though the effect of reducing pollution from renewable energy consumption was observed for the entire group of countries, separate estimates show that the impact of renewable energy consumption is heterogeneous in G-7 countries. In Canada, the use of renewable energy does not have a significant impact on the environment, while in France this interrelation is more pronounced. In Italy and the UK, there is a clear dependence of the level of emissions on energy prices, the more expensive they are, the lower the CO2 emissions are. In Germany, the environmental situation is highly dependent on the share of renewable energy sources; in the USA and Japan, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is more dependent on energy prices than on the share of renewable energy sources in industry. Green development strategy The study is important for the development of the possible political and economic strategies of the European Union, because the problems of preserving the environment in many cases cannot be solved by reducing energy production. “In most cases, macroeconomic determinants are critical to environmental sustainability. Macroeconomic indicators such as fossil fuels, gross domestic product (GDP) and tourism (for tourism destinations) are important components of a viable economy. Thus, studies have shown that diversifying energy, introducing and developing environmentally friendly technologies, and using renewable energy sources should become increasingly important in the countries studied,” the economist explains. Researchers have identified the devastating environmental effects of fossil fuel consumption among some countries that are still heavily dependent on hydrocarbon energy sources. 91�� scientists recommend these countries to continue energy diversification in order to ensure greater autonomy and reduce the economy’s dependence on one type of energy resource. Scientists hope to conduct a similar study for Russia, which takes the 5th place in terms of pollutants emissions after China, the USA, the EU and India. This will allow us to determine further strategies for diversifying the economy of our country more accurately. Ecological research is one of the three strategic areas for the development of scientific and educational activities of 91�� along with the digital industry and materials science. 91�� participates in Project 5-100 intended to increase the competitiveness of the university in the world. March 19, Presentation of Master’s Degree Programmes of the School of Economics and Management took place at 91��. University applicants and future graduates of Bachelor’s degree studies could learn about prospects of undertaking Master’s degree studies and the specificity of new educational programmes. In 2019, 91��’s School of Economics and Management (SEM) announced admissions for Master’s degree studies in 7 majors: Economics; Management; Applied Computer Science; Finance and Credit; Human Resource Management; State and Municipal management; and Business Informatics. “Spheres of training within Master’s studies at 91�� SEM include 20 educational programmes, 3 of which are to be launched in 2019. New programmes are connected with digitalization: they are called ‘Business Analytics’, ‘Accounting, Analysis and Control in Corporate Digital Environment’, ‘Financial Justification of Engineering Solutions in Industry 4.0’, ‘SMART CITY Economy’ and ‘Strategic and Corporate Management under Conditions of Digital Economics’. Laboratory of Marketing Has Opened!

On the first day of the 16th International Youth Festival of Marketing called “Green Apple” the Laboratory of Marketing Solutions was opened. A project on development of marketing solutions of business cases being jointly performed by business representatives and students and called the Laboratory of Marketing Solutions was opened by the School of Economics and Management as part of the “Green Apple” festival in the Activity Hall of SIGMA Education and Recreation Building on March 19th. In the course of the first day of the laboratory’s work presentations were delivered on the cases of companies-partners of the festival in which problems were stated and tasks were set for the mutual search of solutions. 3DiVi company is the world’s market leader in algorithms development. Marketing specialist Aleksandr Potopakhin presented by company’s cases. In the No-seller Booth case, a task was set before the students on the marketing support of the project on implementing a face recognition terminal, which will replace loyalty cards and payment terminals in stores and shopping centres. The company also pays attention to social projects. Case on Dancing without Limits is the task on marketing support of a mobile application for rehabilitation of children with disabilities. “Our Dancing without Limits complex will help involve children with special needs into dancing activities, support the process of rehabilitation, charge with positive vibes, offer communication with children of the same age, and form positive self-assessment,” that was the task set before the company. Representative of Intersvyaz company Alena Aksenovskikh shared on the concept of a mobile application by Intersvyaz: “To make it the control centre of a Smart City available to every citizen of the Ural region.” The task set before the students was to make the usability of the mobile application convenient, comfortable and optimized. Director of Zubry Graphics design studio Irina Glazunova presented a case on Clients without Limits, in which a problem was set on developing marketing communications which will automatically expand the client geography and create the flow of orders. The representative of the Traktor Ice Hockey Club gave an emotional and fascinating speech about the work of their team on developing the concept for the previous season called “Generation T: 70 Years of Our Era” and offered students to fulfil interesting ideas on developing the next season’s concept. Today students have received their tasks. What solutions will we see? We will know that in a month, on April 16th, when the student teams will present their solutions. 91�� Students Become Prize-winners of Statistics Poster Competition

91�� students have become prize-winners of the regional round of the 2018-2019 statistics poster competition among the university and school students (being held once every two years since 2007). The contest was announced by the International Association for Statistical Education (IFSE) and the International Statistical Institute (ISI) as part of the International Statistical Literacy Project (ISLP). Five teams of Bachelor’s students from three 91�� universities took part in the regional round. The winner were announced. The first place in the region was awarded to the poster “Is There Life without Plastic?” created by first-year students of the 91�� Faculty of Mathematics, Mechanics, and Computer Science Nadezhda Nikolaeva, Darya Kolesnikova, and Darya Obukhova (group ЕТ-114). The third place was awarded to the poster “The Psychology of Colour in Marketing and Branding”, created by first-year student of the 91�� Faculty of Mathematics, Mechanics, and Computer Science Nikita Platonov (gr. ЕТ-114) and student of the School of Economics and Management Anna Galaktionova (group ЭУ-204). The winning poster will be sent to the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) to participate in the national round of the competition, the winners of which will be announced by Rosstat before March 28th, 2019. The winners of the international round will be announced and prizes awarded at the 62nd World Statistics Congress in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) in August 2019.

On Thursday, March 7 of 2019, a traditional “capture of the winter town” took place within the first-in-Russia IT Maslenitsa, organised by students of the School Economics and Management. Meanwhile, the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science held the PUBG Mobile Tournament, a multi-user online game in the style of a royal battle. The game featured five teams. After a short battle, the winners got valuable prizes. Participants of the competition were students of HSEM and teams from 91��’s Institute of Engineering and Technology. The project was sponsored by Intec Web Company, with which the Department of Information Technology in Economics has been cooperating for more than 8 years. 1st prize was awarded to a united team of group EU-219 headed by Nikita Sidorenko. The prize was 2-year free hosting of websites of the group’s students on servers of the Intec web Company. Members of the teams that took the 2nd and the 3rd places were each awarded certificates for a site for one year from the Intec web Company. IT Maslenitsa finished with traditional pancakes for all participants.
